Occupational therapy

At Coree, occupational therapy is about helping people with disability aged 15 years and over do the everyday activities that matter to them, in ways that feel realistic and sustainable. We work with people with physical, cognitive, psychosocial and sensory disabilities, including autistic people and people with intellectual disability, as well as people experiencing trauma, chronic stress or burnout.

Our occupational therapy is grounded in the THRIVE IN Nature framework, which combines trauma‑informed science, nature‑based intervention research and occupational therapy’s focus on meaningful activity in real‑world environments.

Home assessments

Home assessments help ensure your home environment is safe, supportive and aligned with how you actually live your life. We look at how you complete daily activities, what is working well, and where small changes in layout, equipment or routines could improve safety, independence and comfort.

We then provide practical recommendations that may include rearranging spaces, introducing assistive equipment, or adjusting routines so your home better supports your goals.

Assistive devices and equipment

We assess and recommend assistive technology and equipment to make everyday tasks safer, easier or more efficient. This could include items like bathroom aids, seating, mobility equipment, kitchen tools or technology supports, depending on your needs.

Recommendations are always tailored to you – we consider your body, environment, culture, daily roles and support network so that equipment is useful, not just added clutter.

Functional capacity assessment

A functional capacity assessment is a comprehensive look at what you can do, what is difficult and what supports may help. We explore areas such as self‑care, household tasks, community access, communication, social participation, learning, and work or study
These assessments can inform NDIS access and plan reviews, guide therapy and support plans, and assist with decisions about housing, supports and services. Reports are written in clear, respectful language that explains your strengths, challenges and support needs.

Ongoing occupational therapy sessions

After your initial assessment and any reports or recommendations, we can continue with ongoing occupational therapy sessions if this is appropriate for your goals and funding.

Ongoing sessions can focus on:

  • Practising daily living skills at home or in the community

  • Building routines that support mental health and energy

  • Developing social and community participation

  • Trialling and embedding assistive technology and environmental changes.

Sessions may be held outdoors, in community locations or via telehealth, depending on your needs and preferences. Your therapist will review progress regularly and adjust the plan with you over time.
